PORTLAND -- Lucille Fecteau, 92, passed away with family by her side on Sept. 5, 2013, after several years of declining health.
She was born in Westbrook, the daughter of Wilbrod and Anna Tremblay Fournier. Lucile attended St. Hyacinth School and graduated from Westbrook High School. She was a veteran of WWII era serving in the WAAC and WAC from 1942-1945. She was a Teletype Operator in England in 1944-45. In 1997 she attended the dedication of the women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington Cemetery in Virginia.
In 1946 Lucille married Emile Fecteau. They raised four children and enjoyed 44 years of marriage until he died in 1990. Lifelong Westbrook residents, they moved to 'the camp' in the mid 1970s. Lucille was a warm, generous, and fun-loving woman. She welcomed her extended family and friends to share her fun times at the lake; swimming, boating, fishing, card games, ice skating, snowmobiling and bonfires. A great cook, Lucille's dinner table always had room for one more. It also always included her homemade pickles and other preserves relished by her grandchildren. The Christmas holiday meant meat pies and homemade cranberry sauce. Lucille loved to knit and her family eagerly awaited the Christmas socks that she worked on all year. Another favorite pastime was reading; she always was excited by the gift of a new book. A 'night owl' she enjoyed late night television, especially David Letterman's Top Ten List. While her primary role was that of a homemaker, wife, and mother Lucille worked for many years as a fitter in the Foundations Department at Porteous, Mitchell and Braun and later Lady Grace.
She was predeceased by her husband, Emile; and brothers, Louis Fournier and his wife Marcella and Rene 'Tata' Fournier and his wife Rose. She is survived by her sons, Roger Fecteau and wife Kathleen of Portland, Dennis Fecteau and Stella Roberge of Sanford, and daughters, Claudette King and husband Raymond of Westbrook and Celeste Fecteau of Gray. She is also survived by grandchildren, Laurie and Paul Berry, Kelly and Kevin Conley, Christopher and Liz King, Daniel and Jean Fecteau, Leanne and Evan Hammonds, Christina Fecteau and Meagan Motley, Briana Fecteau, Cynthia and Brandon Bushaw. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Blais and Hay Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Annes at 10 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at St. Hyacinth Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Women In Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, Inc. Dept. 560 Washington, D.C. 20042-0560.
