According to the 1920 census, Fred F Gerkie, age 37, and his wife Grace E, age 26, were renting and living at 17 Boynton Ave. in the 2nd ward of Plattsburgh, Clinton, New York. Four children were listed: Oakley 9, Opal 8, Sylvia 6, and Verna 2 y 7 m. Their listing in the census was on the same page as the listing for the family of Herbert Seth Facteau. According to the 1930 census, Frederick Gerke, age 49, and his wife Grace, age 36, were renting ($30) and living at 28 Charlotte St in the 3rd ward of Plattsburgh, Clinton, New York. Gerke, of 284 Margaret Street, World War I veteran, died at his home Saturday morning after a long illness. His age was 67. Mr. Gerke was born in Milwaukee, Wis., Aug. 9, 1881, and lived in this city most of his life. He was a painter by trade. Mr. Gerke was in the U.S. Army from 1903 to 1919, and served in France during the first World War. Survivors include his wife; one son, Cpl. Clement Gerke, U. S. Army, stationed at Fort Dix, N.J.; seven daughters, Mrs. Joseph O. Busch, Mrs. Rudolph Kunst, Mrs. William Purick, The Misses Beverly, Sylvia and Joyce Gerke, all of Plattsburgh. and Mrs. Edward Hunt of Fort Bragg, N. C. Mr. Gerke was a member of the Plattsburgh Post 20, American Legion, and Edward and Moses Wells Post 125, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Painters' Uniion. Funeral services will be held.this morning at 9 o'clock from St. John's Church. Interment will be in the family plot in Mount Carmel Cemetery. The body is at the Brown Funeral Home.
