obituary - John Breen Memorial Funeral Home (Lawrence, MA)
Thomas John Solomon, 90, beloved husband of Annette (Fecteau) Solomon, died peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2020 at Anna Jacques Hospital ICU. He was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, the only child of the late Albert Solomon and Josephine (Thomas) Solomon. He was raised and educated in Lawrence and Methuen schools and was proud of his Lebanese heritage and family.
Tom was a man of great faith, attending Mass regularly and praying the rosary every day. He prayed aloud before every meal, including when in restaurants, “Bless us Oh Lord for these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty through Christ Our Lord, Amen. Please Jesus take good care of all our deceased relatives and friends.”
Tom was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was totally dedicated to his family. The happiest times of his life were spent with his family, especially at Salisbury Beach.
Tom owned/operated Solomon’s Barbershop in Lawrence for 49 years and was broker/owner of Solomon Real Estate, also in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He served proudly as a First Lieutenant in the National Guard, stationed in Methuen, Massachusetts and Fort Drum, New York. He played snare drum with The Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corp. In his later years when he spent winters in Tampa, Florida, he was a professional shuffleboard player. For over 40 years, he managed summer beach rentals at his home on Salisbury Beach. Tom and Annette are parishioners at Star Of the Sea Parish in Salisbury where Tom served on the Finance Committee for many years.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Annette, and their children: Joanne (Solomon) Hall and Clifford Hall, of Methuen, Massachusetts, Michael T. Solomon and Janice (Solomon) Solomon, of Methuen, Massachusetts, John A. Solomon and Joyce (Dube) Solomon, also of Methuen, Massachusetts, David R. Solomon and Lisa (Shaheen) Solomon, of North Andover, Massachusetts, and Eileen B. Solomon and Scott Myers, also of North Andover, Massachusetts.
Tom leaves behind his 12 grandchildren: Erik Hall, of San Jose, California, Lani (Hall) and Thomas Adams, of Trophy Club, Texas, Jennifer (Solomon) and Jesse Plouffe, of Methuen, Massachusetts, Michael Solomon, Jr, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, Amanda (Solomon) and Thomas Klemm, of Pelham, New Hampshire, Ashley (Solomon) and Robert Chipman, of Newton, New Hampshire, Laura Beth Solomon, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, Donald Solomon and David Solomon, both of North Andover, Massachusetts, Kathryn Solomon, of Miami, Florida, Nicholas and Alison Fay, of Boston, Massachusetts, and Matthew Fay, of Medford, Massachusetts.
Tom also leaves 5 great-grandchildren: Addyson and Mikayla Plouffe, of Methuen, Massachusetts, Thomas and Brady Klemm, of Pelham, New Hampshire, and Ava Adams, of Trophy Club, Texas.
A private graveside service took place at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Please offer a moment of silence, say the Pledge of Allegiance, or pray the Rosary, not only in Thomas’ memory but also for an end to this pandemic so that we can gather together for a proper memorial service and celebration of Thomas’ life. Godspeed!
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Thomas’ name may be made to: Lawrence General Hospital Charitable Trust, One General Street, P.O. Box 189, Lawrence, MA. 01842 or Lymphoma Research Fund, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, 300 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA. 02215 or to the charity of your choice.
