  Notes	The name of Fred E Bastow and Demerise Bowdman were given as the parents of their daughter Alice when she married Linwood Grindell. ************************************************************** NOTE - on 21 Apr 2015 I MERGED the records for 1) Hilaire Alfred Filteau (b. 12 Oct 1853) (and census 1861 and 1871) and 2) Frederick Barstow/Fecteau (b. abt 1853) ************************************************************** The reason is that Hilaire Alfred's sister Mathilda Fecteau/Barstow m. Hermenigilde Boutin in Aug 1874. Mathilda's maiden name was given as Barstow in the birth record for two of her children in Bath. According to the 1880 census, Frederick Brastow, age 26, and his wife Demisquita, age 24, were living on Water Street in Bath, Sagadahoc, Maine. One child was listed: Alice age 1. **************** My grandfather was born William Frederick Fecteau to parents Frederick Fecteau and wife Demarise (Boudoun) Fecteau. Frederick and Demerise were both from the St Henri area near Quebec but my grandfather Wm F Frederick was born here in Bath Maine just before the turn of the century and died in the 1940's.. Will get back to you with more specifics. He had 3 sisters Emma married a Fitzgerald then widowed she married Carl Eaton - no children and has now passed away herself, Alice married Grindell and lived on Shepard St, Bath and has 3-4 children, then a sister who never married and lived with my grandfather at the family house 667 middle street, Bath. My great-grandfather's story was that he was an excellent carpenter and organ maker. He fell while putting the roof on a church in Brunswick Maine near Bowdoin college and was carried home on a buckboard then died three days later of a broken back on Middle Street. would love to hear mor of your relations as I think they may be closely related somehow. forgot to mention that my greatgrandfather changed the name of his children to Barstow for an unknown reason. Mother's (Elizabeth Ann Barstow Adkins) story was that he did not want the french stigma passed on to his children but that doesn't make any sense since they were purely french. keep in touch [posted by Kathy McAdams on Rootsweb.com in March 2001]
