[from his FindAGrave memorial]
Arvid Sivert Voldberg, 93, died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at the Cornell Care Center with his family gathered at his side.
Arvid was born on June 12, 1920, to Andrew and Martha Vasdal Voldberg on their farm in Glen Flora. He married June Rose Kenter on June 26, 1942, in Chetek.
Arvid was a lifelong member of the Glen Flora Lutheran Church and held the distinction of being the oldest continuous member of that church. Farming was always a part of Arvid’s life, but hardly his sole occupation. Sprinkled throughout his many years he was also driving school bus and hauling milk.
He also worked at cranberry marshes, Northern Sash & Door, Novak & Rapp, Robinson Ford, Peavy Papermill, Gustafson Trucking, Oak Brook Landscaping and other jobs.
He was owner/operator of Voldberg Trucking & Construction, grading roads and plowing snow with his Austin Western graders and cutting/hauling countless cords of logs and firewood.
Arvid loved to laugh. He could tease with the best of teasers. He also liked to drink coffee, eat good cooking, visit with family, friends, as well as total strangers and help out where ever there was a need.
During his 12 years in care centers, Arvid was known as “Smiley” to many of the care center staff.
Arvid is survived by his wife June; their children Darriel, George, “Joe” (Bonnie), and Craig (Sharon), all from Glen Flora, Robert “Bob” (Lauri) from Cornell, Patricia “Patsy” Lee (Jim) from Ashland, Pamela Reed (Earl Mallo) from Ladysmith, and Kelly (Roxanne) from Medford; multitudes of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his sister Ingrid Wasser; his sister-in-law Clara Schlub; his brothers-in-law Bob Lapkiewicz and Ken Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arvid was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son Francis Leroy; his grandson Darius Voldberg; his brothers Axel (Olga) Voldberg and Norman (Maurine) Voldberg; his sisters Sigrid (Walter) Wasser, Olga (Oscar) Johnson and Ruth Lapkiewicz, his sisters-in-law Eunice (Loren) Brown and Irene Anderson; and his brothers-in-law Lewis Neville, Russell Wasser, Ken Small, Rudy Schlub and George Kenter.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 11, at Glen Flora Lutheran Church with Pastor Dwight Hanson officiating. Committal services will be held in the spring at the Glen Flora Lutheran Cemetery.
The Nash-Jackan Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
