obituary - Carriage Towne News (Kingston, NH) - 31 Dec 2008
Mr. Donald M. Roberts, Sr., 84, a resident of Atkinson for the past seven years, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007, at his home following a long illness.
Born, raised and educated in Amesbury, Mass, son of the late Earl and Dorothy (Eaton) Roberts, he graduated from Amesbury High School. Mr. Roberts was an Army veteran of W.W. II serving as a military policeman and was a recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, EAME Medal with three Bronze Stars, and the Asiatic- Pacific Medal.
A thirty-three year member of the Haverhill Fire Department, he served first as a member of the Ayers Village Volunteer Fire Station before being appointed a regular firefighter in 1950 and served until his retirement in 1983. He was also employed as a sales manager for thirty years at Trottier Chevrolet and Jim How Chevrolet of Newton.
A longtime resident of Haverhill before moving to Hampstead in 1980 and later to Atkinson in 2000, Mr. Roberts was a member of the Portland Street Baptist Church, The Haverhill Firefighters Union, The American Legion of Hillsborough, NH, and a 32nd Degree member of Sagahew Lodge F.& A.M., Haverhill and the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. He enjoyed skiing, bowling and automobiles.
Survivors include his wife Esther (Patten) Roberts, sons and daughters-in-law, Donald M. Jr. and Donna Roberts of Atkinson, Dennis S. and Alice Roberts of Henniker, Bruce W. and Barbara Roberts, of Estero, Florida, and Jeffrey A. Roberts of Concord, a sister, Norma Lynch of Seabrook, also six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Members of Sagahew Lodge conducted a Masonic Service on December 28 at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, Plaistow. His Funeral Service was held on December 29, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Spring in Atkinson Cemetery.
