       Florence Adeline “Flo” Dawson died May 10, 2013 at Careage of Whidbey, Coupeville, Washington at the age of 87. She was born May 1, 1926 in Seattle, Washington. Her family were French loggers who traveled the Pacific Coast logging camps. Her father was killed in an auto accident when Florence was 12 years old and she was adopted by Fred and Carrie Mills.
      Florence was very active in Debate during her high school years.
      Florence was introduced to Ed Dawson through Millie, a mutual friend and on April 11, 1964, she and Edward C. Dawson were married. Ed was a firefighter with the City of Seattle and she became a firefighter’s wife.
      Flo also had her own career. She worked for the Bon Marche for many years, starting out in the gift wrap department and moving into men’s clothing sales and eventually into management. She also worked for a time for Cartosians Carpet Sales, for a Wholesale Center in the Counterbalance area and finally for Pemco Insurance Co.
      Florence and Ed took a trip to Oak Harbor, where they located property on the Nienhuis farm and eventually purchased 10 acres. They brought Fred and Carrie to see the property and Fred ended up buying the front five acres and building a home. Florence and Ed built their home on the back five acres and in 1979 this became their permanent home.
      Flo loved to play bingo and enjoyed her many trips to Reno with Ed. She always put others before herself and everyone loved her. She especially loved having Thelma do her hair every week.
      Flo is survived by four sons, John Fecteau of Sparks, Nevada, Larry Fecteau of Oak Harbor, Randy Dawson of Issaquah and Michael Dawson of Poulsbo and by three brothers, Fred, Donald and Robert Mills.
      Graveside Funeral Services will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Oak Harbor on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 2:00pm with Gary Wallin, Certified Life Celebrant. A reception will follow at Wallin Funeral Home for family and friends.
