Herbert A. Tice, 72, of Newport died suddenly June 17, 2001, in Newport. He was born on May 1, 1929, in Holland, Vermont, a son of George Ira and Ethel (Champigny) Tice.
Mr. Tice was in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on May 1, 1952. On September 18, 1982, he married Arlene M. Sears who survives him. He was a heavy truck mechanic in the Taunton, Massachusetts, area for many years. In 1986 he retired from Burkewitz Transportation in Coventry after working there six years. He held memberships with the American Legion Post 21 of Newport and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 798 in Newport.
Among the hobbies he enjoyed were fishing, driving, and riding safety vehicles for the state of Vermont during convoys, and reading.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Tice, of Newport; by his children: George Tice and his wife, Peggy, of Delaware, Elaine Pratt of Taunton, Debbie Bratti and her husband, Rick LePage, of Newport, Henry Fillion and his wife, Kelly, of Rockland, Massachusetts, Michael Fillion and his wife, Connie-Jo of Eddington, Maine, Albert Bratti and Richard Westgate Jr., both of Newport; by his 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; by the following brothers and sisters: Robert Tice and his wife, Joan, of Derby, Doris Swett of Holland, Ruby Fecteau of Derby, Gertrude Daggett of Holland, Earl Tice and his wife, Penny, of Holland, and Dave Tice of Massachusetts; and by several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Derby Line Cemetery with Rob Surprenant officiating. Should friends desire, contributions in Herbert's memory may be made to the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall, Citizens Road, Newport, Vermont 05855.
