TRAVERSE CITY - Lillian M. 'Dolly' Butkovich, 85, of Traverse City, died on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Born Nov. 4, 1918, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Frederick and Mathilda (Loewe) Jacobi. On April 15, 1939, in Detroit, she married Phillip A. Butkovich, who preceded her in death on April 16, 1979.
Dolly had been a resident of the Traverse City area since 1972. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Senior Center and the Senior Citizens Kitchen Band.
Dolly will be fondly remembered as a strong woman who deeply loved and supported her children, and always put their needs before her own.
Survivors include her children, Mary Ann (John) Kennedy and Phillip (Margaret) Butkovich, all of Acme, Thomas (Jeanette) Butkovich of North Carolina, Karen (Lawrence) Fecteau of Port Huron, Janet (John) Marusic of Fayetteville, N.C., Marilyn Butkovich of Traverse City, William Butkovich of Troy, Betty Ann (Michael) Regan of Rochester Hills, Diane (Dale) Chamberlain of Grawn, Annette Butkovich of Traverse City; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clarence (Jean) Jacobi of Wisconsin.
Along with her husband, Phillip, Lillian is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George and William Jacobi; and a sister, Louise Barnash.
Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Mapleton, on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Father Edwin Thome will serve as celebrant. Burial will be in Acme Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan.
Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
