Died Bef 5 Oct 1641 Massachusetts Christened 8 Apr 1681 St. James, Clarkenwell, Middlesex, England Notes - John Briggs was first mentioned by Governor Bradford in his Plymouth Colony Records when he wad deeded, 16 Apr 1640, seven and one half acres of land at Sandwich with the original proprietors of the township. On 1 Jun 1641 at the General Court of Plymouth his widow was granted the administration of his estate. Savage considered him to be the John Briggs of Lynn who probably came on the "Blessing" in 1635, ae. 20 y. However, the John Briggs who settled in Newport, RI in 1639 may have been the passenger on the "Blessing."
The names of the children of John are recorded in the inventory taken of his estate by Edward Dillinghame and Thomas Tuppper: "And the said Katherne Briggs Doth prmise and give her two children two cowes vis' the yeonger white cowe to her sonne Samuel and the browne heiffer to her Daughter Sarah to be kept for them and thencrease and stock to be theires from this tyme forward ----." The inventory of stock and howehold goods included "three melch cowes, 1 heiffer, 1 bullock and two bull calves."
