SARANAC, NY---Ellsworth Napper, 84, passed away on February 12, 2011 at his home. He was born in Saranac on November 28, 1926 son of Robert and Margaret (Newton) Napper. He attended schools in Saranac and Cadyville, then graduated from Plattsburgh High School. Ellsworth married Shirley Everleth on September 27, 1947 in Saranac Methodist Church. Ellsworth was known as Ell, Dad, Loving Papa, Grandpa, Grampa, and Papa-Shirley. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Everleth Napper, their 5 children and spouses, 9 grandchildren and12 great grand children. Children, Jean and Jeff Wray of Peru, Ricky and Debbie Napper of Saranac, Randy and Mary Napper of Saranac, Todd and Lisa Napper of Chazy Lake and Pam and Scott Scholl of Dannemora. Grandchildren, Molly and Jim Morin of Maine, Karrie and Allan Cook of Kentucky, Jeff and Carrie Wray Jr. of Peru, Tammi and Evan Reil of Saranac, Neil and Missy Napper of Cadyville, Kristen and Kayla Napper of Chazy Lake and Jonathan and Nathaniel Wray of Peru. Great grandchildren, Stephanie, Christopher, Elizabeth, Isabelle, Colton, Jenna, Alex, Kate, Grace, Audrey, Sophia, and Henry. He is also survived by his sister, Jane Bull of Saranac and several nieces and nephews. Ellsworth was pre-deceased by parents, Robert and Margret Napper, and sons Robert, Lonnie, and Keven Napper.
Ellsworth worked at Clinton Correctional Facility for 39 ½ years and also retired from Saranac Central School as a bus driver after 25 years. He was a charter member of the Saranac Fire Department. Ellsworth was also the caretaker for the Independence Cemetery in Saranac, and worked for the town of Saranac as a snowplow driver. He had a passion for hard work, farming, camping, traveling and watching his granddaughters play sports. He was given the Very Important Grandparent Award after a season of T-ball. Ellsworth had a love of land, and a passion for his old cow, Buff and his horses, Pansy and Daisy. He also loved watching the deer and feeding the chipmunks. On a warm summer day you could find Dad on his lawn mower and on a cold December Sunday you could find him surrounded by his entire family for the traditional family brunch.
Calling hours are Monday, February 14th from 3-7 PM at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. Funeral services are Tuesday, February 15th at 1 PM in the Saranac United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery in the Spring. Donations in his memory may be made to the CVPH Heart Center, Saranac Volunteer Fire Department, or the Saranac United Methodist Church Building Fund.
