Elizabeth COOK was born in Randolph County, Indiana, 22 Aug 1835, and moved with her parents to Henry County, Iowa, in 1836, where she was united in marriage to Nathan HOCKETT on 12 Oct 1851, who with 11 children, survives to mourn her loss. Mrs. Elizabeth COOK Hockett had been an invalid for 12 years, and was an intense sufferer. The family came to Eagle Valley in 1897, hoping to benefit her health by a change of climate and surroundings, but the hope was vain. She seemed to grow better for a short time, but the change was only temporary, and she soon began failing. She was raised a member of the Society of Friends, a belief to which she was still faithful, and was ready to answer to the Master's call, her only regret being to separate for a time from the loved ones left behind. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E.G. Michaels at the Methodist Church, Mrs Hockett had been a member of the Rebekah Degree, I.O.O.F., since 1859, and was buried by that society, 27 Nov 1898, in Eagle Valley Cemetery, the cermonies being conducted by Myrtle Rebekah Lodge No. 79, I.O.O.F. The bereaved husband and family have the sympathy of the entire community. OBITUARY-NOTICE: Mrs. Elizabeth COOK Hockett, wife of Nathan HOCKETT, died on 26 Nov 1898, at Eagle Valley, Oregon, [Richland, Oregon]. Mr. & Mrs. Hockett are well known in this section having resided on Powder river for many years. They left their about a year ago, thinging a change of climate would be a benefit to Mrs. Hockett's health. She was born 22 Aug 1835, and was married to Mr Hockett 12 Oct 1851.
