Sylvia retired from New York Telephone on May 31, 1971, where she had been Chief Operator. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Association and she was a member of St. John's Church in Plattsburgh.
Sylvia also worked for a bakery.
Loved to dance and tells of doing the Charleston as a very young girl.

was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Nov. 7, 1913, the daughter of Fred and Grace (Lavigne) Gerke.
Sylvia retired from New York Telephone on May 31, 1971, where she had been Chief Operator. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Association and she was a member of St. John's Church in Plattsburgh.
Sylvia was predeceased by her first husband, John Proctor, and her second husband, James Dave Remick. She was also predeceased by her brothers Oakley and Clement Gerke; and her sisters, Opal Busch, Verna Gross, Carmen Purick and Bernice Wiley.
Sylvia is survived by her sisters, Adeline Goss of Boston, Mass., Beverly Hyslip of Onsett, Mass., and Joyce Doorey and her husband Michael of Peru, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, Plattsburgh.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. John's Church. Interment will be at a later date in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Friends wishing may make donations to Alzheimer's Research or the American Heart Association.
