WESTFIELD Gladys I. (Aronson) Mallett, 89, of 40 Court St., Westfield, MA died Saturday, Jan. 7 in Noble Hospital, Westfield. Her husband of 32 years, Warren E. Mallett died in 1979. She leaves her daughter Joy C. Dargon and her husband Peter J. Dargon of Westfield; two stepsons, Warren E. Mallet, Jr. in FL, and Edmund E. Mallett of No. Ossippee, NH who predeceased her; one granddaughter Michelle C. Leeman and her husband Robert F. Leeman, Jr. of Branford, CT; two step-grandsons and one great-granddaughter Allyson C. Spaffond. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Florence Bergeson of Worcester and Linnea C. Carlson of Holden. She leaves one niece Linda Fecteau, So. Dennis, MA and one grand-niece Cynthia Bettencourt of South Portland, ME. Her devoted and long time friend and companion Raymond M. AuClair died in 2003.
She was born in Worcester daughter of Albin and Hilda (Granlund) Aronson and had lived in Worcester and Holden before moving to Westfield 27 years ago. She had graduated from Commerce H.S. in Worcester. She had worked in the Advertising Department of Woodbury and Co. and retired as Supervisor of the department after 15 years. She had worked at Norton Co. during World War II and the early 1960’s. She had been a member of Chaffin Congregational Church and Wachusett Chapter O.E.S in Holden and Treasurer of her Tenants’ Association.
The funeral will be held at 11 AM TUesday, Jan. 10, in Caswell-King Funeral Home, 1147 Main St., Holden. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 10-11 AM Tuesday prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Salvation Army, c/o Gail LaGasse, 12 Arnold St., Westfield, MA 01085.
