Filteau pleaded guilty. The court suspended the fine a week. news article - Fitchburg Sentinal (MA) - 19 Aug 1941 Joseph Filteau, 39, of 20 North street, fined $10 for assault and battery in district court today, told Judge A. Z. Goodfellow that his refusal to acept a glass of beer from the complainant eight months ago was the indirect cause of last Saturday's offense. Filteau was granted two weeks to pay the fine, and was warned not to bother the complainant, Frank Pancari, 65, formerly of 20 North street. According to the testimony by the compainant and the defendant, Filteau refused a drink of beer offered by Pancari eight months ago. Since then the feeling has not been too good between the two. Last Saturday morning, while still suffering from the effects of drinks the privious night, Filteau offered a drink to Pancari. An argument followed. Pancari claimed he was punched on the jaw. Filteau insisted he just pushed the older man.
