- obituary notice;
Denise Lucille Stewart, 52, of North Andover, died January 19, 2007, at her home, with her family at her side, after a year-long illness.
Born in Hooksett, N.H., January 21, 1954, she was the daughter of Laudia and Leonard LaFleur.
She attended Hooksett schools and graduated from Pembroke Academy in 1972. She worked for the General Electric Co. in the late 1970s and early 1980s before taking time off to raise her family. For the last 15 years, she had worked for the IRS in Andover as a lead file clerk.
Mrs. Stewart was an avid skier who enjoyed weekends away at the “camp,” skiing with the Gunstock gang and cold nights sitting around the fireplace with her family. Her other enjoyments were cooking, watching old movies, Scrabble, Yahtzee, gardening, the beach, raising her birds and entertaining during the holidays and “Patriots” games.
She was also an active volunteer for the North Andover Booster Club who, along with her husband, ran the girls softball program for seven years. Mrs. Stewart took great pride and pleasure in assuring that the girls had the best uniforms, that the playing fields were safe, schedules were worked around the girls school activities and all the other administrative duties that went along with a program with 300 girls in it were completed.
Mrs. Stewart was the beloved wife of Frank Stewart; mother of Justin of Montana, Frank Jr. and Jessica of North Andover; and grandmother of Fern Noelle of Montana.
She is also survived by her father, Leonard LaFleur and his wife, Georgette; her sisters, Fran Blazon of Goffstown, N.H. and Lisa Fecteau of California and her husband, John; her daughter-in-law, Barbara (Hazelton) Stewart of Montana; her sisters-in-law, Katie Stewart of Texas and Peggy McHale of Connecticut; her brother-in-law, Michael Stewart and his wife, Patty, of Connecticut; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 22, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, followed by burial in Ridgewood Cemetery, both in North Andover. Family and friends may call on Sunday, January 21, 2-5 p.m. at the Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third St., North Andover.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
