      Okley Gerke, 34, of Plattsburgh, who received his discharge from the U.S. Navy last February, died unexpectedly Tuesday at Bellevue Hospital, New York City, in which city he recently has been employed in government work.
      Mr. Gerke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gerke of 284 Margaret street, was born at C'adyville on Sept. 14. 1911. When he was a youth his family removed to Plattsburgh. He attended PHS and prior to entering the service in September, 1942, he was employed as a guard at Dannemora prison.
      In the navy Mr. Gerke served as a chief petty officer, an instructor in gunnery. All of his service was at training stations in the United States. Nine months ago he was given his medical discharge.
      Mr. Gerke is survived by his wife, nee Grace Facteau of Mofflttsville, and three children, Patricia, 14, Jerry, 7, and Terry 5. The daughter is by a former marriage. Also surviving are his parents, one brother and eight sisters. They are: Clement Gerke, serving in the Navy; Mrs. Adolphus Busch, Mrs. Wilbur Purick, Mrs. Fred Johnson, Mrs. Rudolph Kunsts, Beverly and Joyce Gerke, all of Plattsburgh; Mrs. Robert Polk of Dorchester, Mass., and Mrs. Bernice Gibbs of Madison, Wis.
      The body is being brought to Pittsburgh and is expected to arrive this morning. It will be taken to the Gerke home, 284 Margaret street. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Church, probably on Saturday morning at nine o'clock.

      Funeral services for Okley Gerke, a veteran of World War Two who died unexpectedly in New York on Tuesday, were held at St. John's Church, this city, Saturday morning at nine o'clock. Rev. Morris L.Dwyer, assistant to the pastor, was celebrant of the high Mass of requiem.
      Military honors were accorded by a detachment of regulars from the AAF Convalescent Hospital at Plattsburgh Barracks. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends.
      Pall bearers were Wilbur Purick, Joseph Busch, Herbert and Arthur Facteau, David Vass and Edgar Lamb. Interment was in the family plot in Mount Carmel cemetery Father Dwyer recited prayers at the grave. The firing squad fired three volleys over the open grave and a field musician sounded "taps."
